During the fall is a good time to have new equipment installed in your home. We often talk about how important it is to make sure that you have a quality heating system for the coming winter, and to arrange for a replacement if your current system is aging or no longer capable of keeping up with your comfort demands. But there’s another type of installation we handle that you might wish to consider for the fall: tankless water heaters.
What’s a tankless water heater?
It’s a water heater that doesn’t store a supply of water kept at a constant temperature in a tank. Instead, it applies heat directly to the water as it moves through a heat exchanger in the system. It only comes on to heat the water when there’s a demand, such as someone in the home turning on the hot water for a sink. For this reason, a tankless water heater is also called an “on-demand” water heater.
What are the advantages of this type of water heater?
- Reduced energy costs: Because a tankless water heater only uses energy when there’s a need for hot water, it consumes less energy than a storage tank water heater, which has to keep its water supply at a constant temperature.
- Unlimited hot water: There’s no hot water supply that can run out—the tankless system is always ready to heat up more! This means you won’t have to worry about somebody going with a cold shower in the morning.
- Longevity: A tankless water heater undergoes much less stress over its lifetime than a storage tank water heater. This helps to make that lifetime a long one! You’ll have many extra years to enjoy those energy savings.
- Space: Tankless water heaters are compact and take up little space compared to a storage tank water heater.
