Purl’s Helped at the Alegria Guild Annual “Day in the Country” Event

Friday, October 25th, 2019

This year, Purl’s was proud to volunteer at the Alegria Guild’s annual “Day in the Country” event. The Alegria Guild represents Madera County, and its members are made up of a diverse group of women who share in common a love for children. The annual “Day in the Country” is a women’s luncheon that’s great for gathering with friends and family to support Valley Children’s Healthcare.

This year’s event was held on October 5 and included the guild’s famous baked goods sale, box office raffle, door prizes, silent auction, and shopping at the Artisan Faire. Our Purl’s volunteers donated a handcrafted entertainment station for the event. We are always excited to support the Alegria Guild and Valley Children’s Hospital.

We’ve been a part of the local community for more than 65 years, and everyone at Purl’s is proud to support our future community leaders and achievers. This September, we got involved in supporting the 4-H and FFA children at the Madera Fair. Each year, the kids from FFA (formerly Future Farmers of America) and 4-H (administered by the US Department of Agriculture to develop citizenship, leadership, responsibility, and life skills of youth) hold a hot dog dinner.

We had a great night cooking hot dogs with the kids. It was a fantastic group! Thanks to Sheryl Berry for organizing and keeping us on track. We hope to keep this partnership and tradition going strong.

Wild Fires & HVAC systems

The air quality in the Central Valley has been greatly affected by the many wild fires burning in our area.  We can look out our window and see the smoke in our Valley.   Smoke mixed in the air from wild fires often includes a lot of small particles.   When you run your HVAC system in these conditions some of these partials can enter your home and affect your indoor air quality.   It is important to service and clean your system and to change your filters more often in these conditions.  You may consider upgrading your filters to a higher MERV rating for finer filtration.

If you are in a heavy smoke filled area you may consider cleaning the ductwork in your home or office to refresh your entire system.   This is something you can seek advice from one of our indoor air quality specialists.

Enjoy all the perks of summer in the Central Valley

Homegrown by Purl’s Sheet Metal employees!  Nothing beats home grown vegetables, especially tomatoes!  Lucky for us, Sheryl Berry and Pat Reese both have amazing gardens full of delicious vine ripened tomatoes.  They are kind enough to share with everyone!   Here are a couple of our Purl’s Sheet Metal favorite recipes!

BLT Bites

Slice Tomatoes cross wise- Stuff with shredded lettuce, top with bacon and drizzle some homemade buttermilk ranch across the top!   Salad in a tomato…Amazing!   For an added bonus top with Feta or Blue cheese!

Don’t forget your pets on these hot days.  Have a cool place for your pets with plenty of shade and fresh water.    Hot surfaces can burn their paws and many pets can overheat easily.  A little water in a kiddie pool is also a good choice for many pets.

Our best summer tip for your indoor home comfort is to make sure you air conditioning system is serviced by a professional HVAC technician so you are prepared for the long summer.  It is a good idea to call for preventative maintenance to avoid any major breakdowns during the peak season.    Our service technicians are trained professionals and will get your air conditioning system ready for the triple digits temperatures in Fresno, CA and the surrounding area.

The hot weather has arrived in the Central Valley.  One of the ways our team stays cool at Purl’s Sheet Metal is with cool snacks and treats.   This week it was homemade popsicles.   We made strawberry watermelon popsicles from fresh fruit. This is a healthy and refreshing summer treat that everyone loved.   It’s easy and so good for you.   Make your own variation for some extra fun.

2 cups of watermelon

            2 cups of strawberries

            Juice of 1 lemon

Blend ingredients together until liquefied.   Once liquefied pour into your favorite molds.

Freeze for 4-6 hours and then ENJOY!

Purl’s Helps with Valley Children’s Healthcare’s Kids Day

Friday, March 9th, 2018

Purls_Sheet_Metal_Valley_Childrens_Hospital_Kids_Day_FundraiserAt Purl’s, we believe in giving to the community we serve. That’s why we take active parts in charitable events like Kids Day.

Since 1988, Valley Children’s Healthcare has partnered with ABC30 and the Fresno Bee to create Kids Day—one of the largest fundraising events in the Central Valley. A special edition of the Fresno Bee is sold to provide donations to the hospital. This special edition of the paper contains stories of patients and photographs illustrating the essential pediatric medical care the Valley Children’s Hospital offers. Kids Day has helped cover millions of dollars in uncompensated care. This allows the hospital to treat kids with life-threatening conditions whose families may not be able to afford proper care.

Purl’s is proud to participate in this event. Karen at Purl’s was in charge of our local chapter to raise funds for Valley Children’s Hospital. She and a friend spoke to local schools and motivated volunteers to help with the cause. She helped coordinate with organizations to pick up the newspapers for distribution and sale.

Last year alone, Kids Day helped to raise $700,000 for the hospital—and this year hopes are high for even greater success!

Monday, January 8th, 2018

Purl’s Sheet Metal & Air Conditioning is a sponsor for Davidson Racing in the 2017 McKenzie’s Rage at the River Race, which was held in Laughlin, NV, this past Dec 7–9. Several of our Purl’s Sheet Metal team participated in this off-road racing event as owners and drivers.

Racers, pit crews, and spectators packed the town for this off-road extravaganza. And it was the perfect sunny weekend for an off-road race! Over 300 entrants participated in the 12-mile tight racing course. The event included three days of racing, including qualifying, a fun run, and heat races. It was the perfect venue for SNORE (Southern Nevada Off-Road Enthusiasts) to wrap up their 2017 season of racing.

Davidson Racing closed off the weekend with Beans Davidson finishing 8th in Class 12 and Kurt Davidson Jr. finishing in the top 20 of his class of 50 entrants! The team is looking forward to their next race in February of 2018.
