Summer Air Conditioner Start Up Tips

Wednesday, April 30th, 2014

Summservice pageer temperatures have arrived Fresno, CA and the Central Valley. Many people will be turning on their AC for the first time in the next few days as temperatures are expected to reach the mid 90’s for the first time this season. Here are a couple of tips to help keep you cool and to get your HVAC system ready for the summer months.

Replace air filters

It is a good idea to replace your air filters at the start of the cooling season. This will help your cooling system to operate at peak condition. (Filters should be changed every 3 months).

Service System Regularly

Servicing your home’s heating and cooling system is as important as changing the oil in your car. Schedule a seasonal service appointment to have your unit checked and cleaned for the summer season. Efficiency decreases when the system is dirty. Service Technicians will also check your condensate line to make sure it is draining properly. A clogged and dirty condensate drain can cause water damage to your home.

Program Thermostat

Program your thermostat for the summer season. Avoid making large thermostat adjustments during peak cooling times. If you turn your system completely off it can take many hours to bring the indoor temperature back down to your comfort level. Set your thermostat to 78 or whatever is comfortable while you are home and raise the temperature level while you are away.

Visual inspection of your system

Remove any debris or plant growth from outdoor condensing units. Make sure any outdoor winter covers are removed before turning on your unit. Keep area around units clean

Check to make sure all vents are open

Make sure all of the supply vents in the home are open for cooling.

Test your system

Turn on your HVAC system and let it run for about an hour. Make sure the vents are blowing cold air. If Heating Pagethe vents are blowing warm or hot air you may need refrigerant for your system. You can damage the cooling system components if you operate the system when it is low on refrigerant. Contact Purl’s Sheet Metal & Air Conditioning to schedule a service appointment in Madera or Fresno, CA.

It is a good idea to do a visual inspection and to run your HVAC system through a test cycle at the beginning of every season. It is also recommended to have your system serviced routinely to keep it clean and to spot any possible problems before they lead to an unexpected breakdown. Call Purl’s Sheet Metal & Air Conditioning to schedule an appointment with one of our service technicians today.

Purl’s Sheet Metal & Air Conditioning was a proud sponsor of the Davidson Motorsports Racing Team at this year’s Battle of Primm Race on February 22-23 in Primm, NV. Beans Davidson was the man behind the wheel of the 1820 car. Our fabrication technicians had done the custom sheet metal racing skins for the car and got everything prepped and ready for paint and decals. Great Experience With Purl’s Sheet Metal & Air Conditioning

Monday, August 5th, 2013

We love hearing your feedback and are always very pleased when our hard work pays off. Below is a recent testimonial we received from a valued customer on Yelp (in filtered reviews):

“Owning a rental home out of town makes it hard to get companies to do service for you via just a phone call. So many wanted me to drive to the business and make the necessary arrangements and made me feel as if I was inconveniencing them with my questions. I then remembered my parents had used Purl’s back in the 1990’s so I gave them a call. From the moment they took my first call until the job was completed, I felt as though my business was appreciated and that I was not a bother. The office ladies kept in touch with me over invoices and Chris doing the job kept me updated with the work being done. The original A/C unit was installed by their company back in the mid 1940’s and just recently stopped working, due to age. I gave them my tenant’s phone number and they even worked with her as to her availability to be home for them to come and go as needed for the job. I HIGHLY recommend this company! Professional, appreciative, availability, and honest. Very hard traits to find in businesses these days. THANKS PURL’S FOR SUCH GREAT SERVICE AND EXPERIENCE! MUCH APPRECIATED!”

Memorial Day

Monday, May 27th, 2013

During the final Monday of May every year, we commemorate those military personnel who have died in service to their country. Formerly known as Decoration Day, probably because of the way that graveyards were decorated with flowers, Memorial Day came to prominence in the wake of the American Civil War, which left the country war-torn, with many casualties on both sides. Since that time, it has been a day of remembering those who have given up the ultimate sacrifice for their country.

As you go about town on your day off from work, you’ll probably see an abundance of flags and flowers, as well as public commemorations such as parades. While this day has been turned into the last leg of a three-day weekend, it’s important to reflect on the way that our military personnel have shaped our country, and to remember their contribution to the way we live today. We at Purl’s Sheet Metal & Air Conditioning, wish you all the best on Memorial Day.
