Spring is the ideal time to evaluate your air conditioning system to see if it needs repairs, or in some cases should be upgraded or replaced entirely. You never want to head into the hot weather of the middle of the year with an aging, inferior, and energy-wasting air conditioner in your house. The best way to find the right path forward for excellent cooling is to call on us for regular maintenance. One of our experienced technicians will be able to give you a professional opinion about the state of your AC and whether a replacement is the more cost-effective choice over continuing with repairs.
How old is your current air conditioning system?
This is the first question to ask yourself when you think your AC needs an upgrade. The standard central air conditioning system lasts between 10 to 15 years. If your air conditioner is older than this, make replacing it a priority on your list of home improvements. Even if the AC still seems to be working fine, at this age it is likely to start to deteriorate fast.
Is a new condensing unit a good plan?
In a split system, the outside component of your air conditioning system is the condensing unit, containing the condensing coil, compressor, and fan. Replacing an ailing condenser unit can help improve an older air conditioner tremendously. But make sure to consult with professionals so you don’t end up with a “mismatched” system where the condenser doesn’t work well with the indoor unit.
Is your air conditioning system costing more to run?
Look over your electrical bills from the past few summers. If the cost to keep your home cool has taken a noticeable increase, the issue may be that your air conditioner can no longer keep up—even with routine maintenance. Changing to a new system will help you start saving money while also seeing that your home is prepared for the heat of summer.
