March is an unusual month when it comes to heating and cooling a home, especially in a place like Northern California, where temperatures often swing back and forth between warm days and cold rainy days. This is probably the ideal time of the year to think about making changes to your HVAC system, such as putting in a new air conditioner or heater.
Last week we looked into making the decision to replace or upgrade your air conditioning system during the spring. If you think that now is a good time to put in a new AC or add upgrades to your current one, we’ve put together some suggestions to consider.
Spring is the ideal time to evaluate your air conditioning system to see if it needs repairs, or in some cases should be upgraded or replaced entirely. You never want to head into the hot weather of the middle of the year with an aging, inferior, and energy-wasting air conditioner in your house.
The second half of February is here, and we’re already experiencing warmer weather. But we can’t count on it remaining like this all the way through to the middle of spring. There may still be some chilly surprises ahead, and that means your heating system needs to be prepared to come back on.

Purl’s Sheet Metal wrapped up our 2015 Coats for Kids drive with a total collection of 315 coats. Our customers, employees and the kids at Lincoln Elementary School in Madera collected coats. This has been a very cold winter and every coat collected was desperately needed.
Insulation is one of the keys to keeping a home both comfortable and energy-saving throughout the year. Insulation serves as a barrier against the movement of heat, so in summer it keeps out excessive heat from moving indoors (sparing your air conditioning system a lot of extra labor) and during the winter it helps to trap heat indoors (which gives your heating system a welcome break).
During the summer, ceiling fans are a great way to have increased comfort while also reducing the work load on your air conditioning system. In the regular operation of a ceiling fan, the rotating blades force room air down and create a “wind chill” effect: the movement of the air pushes away the heat envelope from around your body, allowing you to release more heat and feel cooler.
